A Typical Day at Camp Farley
The daily program for day and overnight campers typically consists of five activities. The first three activities are predetermined to provide a well-balanced variety of experiences throughout the week. Primary activities include a daily free swim along with a combination of arts, recreation, and nature programs throughout the week. Depending on their age, campers also enjoy at least one archery, canoeing, and barnyard activity as part of this weekly formula. Songs, skits, and announcements are often integrated during transitional periods between activities and during snack times.

Each day, campers also have the opportunity to choose two elective activities. Activities offered during the first elective include instructional swimming, archery, canoeing, barnyard animals, creative arts, recreation, fishing, dance, theater, and other activities too numerous to list. The last elective (known as RAS) offered during the day is limited to a Recreation, Arts, or free Swim activity.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Camp Farley's camp program represents a dynamic and fluid experience, with the ability to adapt to changing situations such as weather, camper interest, staff specialties, and other factors. Camp is more than shooting an arrow, rowing a canoe, or making your favorite arts & craft project - it's a place where kids develop, make friends, and experience different things.

Discoverers (Ages 6 - 8) - These campers are scheduled for a variety of camp activities each day to make sure that they are given a chance to participate in a wide range of camp activities including a daily free swim. Discoverers participate in arts & crafts, nature, barnyard, recreation and swimming activities. They also get the chance to choose 2 of their activities each day during Electives and RAS (Recreation, Art, Swim).

Explorers (Ages 9 - 11) - Explorers are scheduled for a variety of camp activities each day that includes a daily free swim program, arts & crafts, nature, barnyard, recreation, canoeing and archery. They will also have the opportunity to select 2 of their choice activities each day during our Electives and RAS (Recreation, Art, Swim) programs.

Adventurers (Ages 12 -15) - Our teen-aged campers are scheduled for a daily free swim period and then a sampling of our camp activities each morning including nature, arts & crafts, recreation, archery and kayaking. These campers participate in the Electives and RAS (Recreation, Art, Swim) programs each day where they can choose their own activities.

Campers in this age group also participate in an additional elective activity called the Adventure Program. This program allows our older campers to choose an area of camp to "specialize" in for the week. They are offered a choice of at least 5 Adventures each week which may include our Ropes Challenge Course, Outdoor Living Skills, Aquatics, Photography, Arts & Crafts, Recreation, Music/Performance, or Make Your Own Adventure. The campers participate in their adventures for 1 period each day (or 2 periods in the case of the Ropes Challenge Course).
  • Ropes Challenge Course - Campers participate in team building and trust activities on our low ropes elements and move on to our high ropes challenges of the Climbing Wall, the Zip Line and the Multi Line Bridge

  • Outdoor Living Skills - Campers learn basic outdoor living skills, practice building a fire, making a shelter, learning how to use a compass and participating in other outdoor challenges

  • Aquatics - Campers participate in a variety of water based activities including kayaking (12 & older), water games, mini-lifeguarding, and other water challenges.

  • Photography - Campers learn the basics of digital photography while exploring the camp through the eyes of a camera. At the end of the week, the campers print their photos and make a photo album or picture frame.

  • Arts & Crafts - Campers engage in more intricate or complex art projects that can be worked on over the course of the week. This gives the artistic camper a chance to really shine.

  • Recreation - Campers will play a variety of games and sports during their week - often helping to choose their activities with the help of their counselor.

  • Music/Performance - Campers choose a song and choreograph a dance to go along with it and perform their creation on Fridays for the camp at large.

  • Make Your Own Adventure - Campers plan their own adventure with their counselors and participate in a wide variety of camp activities - sampling a little of their favorite activities that the camp has to offer.

GENERAL CAMP ACTIVITIES

NATURE: Campers develop awareness and stewardship of the environment through hands-on projects, games, and nature walks.

ARTS & CRAFTS: Creative projects stimulate creativity using natural and recycled materials.

WATERFRONT: Certified and trained staff offer supervised free swim and instructional swimming for all campers, and canoeing for campers 9 and older, and kayaking for campers 12 and older. Supervision and staff to camper ratios exceed state requirements for swimming activities. The swimming abilities and/or skills of ALL CAMPERS are evaluated during the initial part of the camp week based on several standard swimming criteria, and are assigned to a specifically designed swimming area and/or depth appropriate for their swimming skills.

Campers who do not wish to go swimming during the regularly scheduled free swim period remain with their assigned group and spend this time on the beach. Instructional swimming is offered as an elective only.

ARCHERY: Campers 9 & older receive certified instruction and practice in target shooting using re-curved bows.

ANIMAL CARE: Campers learn about feeding, safe handling, grooming, and the care of native and domesticated animals under the supervision of trained staff.

CHALLENGE PROGRAM: Campers participate in activities in our low ropes challenge course designed to build trust, self-esteem, communication and teamwork.

PERFORMING ARTS: Campers explore self-expression through music, dance, drama, and performances.

RECREATION: Non-competitive sports & games offered. Campers participate in a variety of games, often selected by choice. These may include kickball, volley ball, soccer, Frisbee golf, and other popular field games.

OUTDOOR LIVING SKILLS: Campers learn basic outdoor skills, including fire building, outdoor cooking and shelter building.

ELECTIVES

Subject to size and age constraints, availability of staff, and level of camper interest, campers choose an elective from a wide variety of activities that are offered by our staff. The electives vary from week to week but may include activities such as: crafts, games, fishing (some equipment may be available but campers are encouraged to bring their own rod), dance, drama, barnyard, cooking, low ropes, instructional swimming, kayaking (12 and over), canoeing (9 and over), archery, soccer, volleyball and kickball. Campers will choose 2 electives each week - one for Monday and Tuesday and another for Wednesday and Thursday.

"RAS"
CHOICE OF RECREATION, ARTS, or SWIMMING

For the fifth and final program of each day, campers of mixed ages choose to participate in one of these three activity areas. They can choose a different activity each day or go to the same program area every day.
